Our ancestors lived in forest utilizing the resources there without disturbing the natural habitat and ecosystem. But modern man who lived in the plains and valleys started migrating to the hills collecting the wealth from forest. Human intervention with hills and forest resulted in over exploitation of forest for his personal, industrial, commercial and agricultural purpose which gradually led to ruthless deforestation and bamboo depletion. Over exploitation of forests resulted in huge climate changes.
The most obvious manifestation of climate change is the warming of the Earth, melting ice and rising of sea level. Climate change causes terrible consequences that affect directly on nature and people, such as earthquake, tsunami, floods, drought, scarcity and starvation, increased risk of wild fire, epidemics on human and animals, decreasing biodiversity, destruction of ecosystem as well as serious damage to economy and social life. Rising temperatures are affecting wildlife and their habitats. Melting snows in Polar Regions has challenged species such as Adelia penguin in Antarctica where as some populations on the western peninsula have collapsed by 90 percent. Others such as polar bears won’t be able to adapt and would become extinct. Some butterflies, foxes, and alpine plants have migrated farther north or to higher cooler areas. Wildlife species need more protection due to changing ecosystems and habitat loss. They have to adapt to changing climate patterns, experience habitat loss and have to alter their breeding and feeding patterns in order to survive.
Burning of fossil fuels emits greenhouse gases into the atmosphere—primarily carbon dioxide. Other gases which have adverse effect on environment are methane, nitrous oxide and CFCs. Climate change is a global issue now and researchers use plants to reduce CO2 emissions.
One Home One Forest
Forests are repositories of invaluable gifts of nature. One Home One Forest brings the idea that each member in a house plant a tree for the next generation to come. Plant trees around your home for a better world. Help children to save on future. Empower children and youth to become climate justice ambassadors. Let each tree be a symbol for climate justice. Donate a Tree for Mother Earth.
Donate a Tree
If you don’t have enough space around your home, every member of the house can donate us to plant a tree and thus you can provide sustainable support to our tree planting efforts and the expansion of our global network. Donate and plant trees in honour of your loved ones to celebrate birthdays, holidays, recognition anniversaries, achievements, memorable events or days graduations, in memory of your loved ones, celebrations or memory of your pets.
The reasons for planting a tree are limitless, but one thing remains the same. This simple gesture will make a lasting impact.
Your donation has a direct impact on the earth and lives of the people who need it most. By helping us plant trees, you give families the ability to transition from unsustainable farming techniques to a Forest Garden system. Your donation not only sustains and empowers them, but also changes their lives forever.
We are grateful and indebted to your support and generosity as you help us fight an essential fight; the one that will give our grandchildren the ability to call our Earth, “home.” We salute you for being our supporter and thank you for joining us. You are all investors in STSL as we uplift people and recharge the planet for the next 30 years to come.
Planting a Billion Trees can help save the Earth from deforestation. It’s a big number, but we know we can do it with your help.
Let us paint mountains, deserts, coasts and deltas green with trees. Together we can fight air pollution across India’s major cities. Through schools, colleges, government and other non-governmental organisations we can plant fruit bearing, medicinal and fodder species of plants making schools colleges and all other organizations cleaner and greener.
Trees are called the lungs of the Earth because they absorb pollutants through their leaves, trapping and filtering contaminants in the air.
Trees clean our air, save from overheating, protect us from storms, gives privacy, makes oxygen, provide food, prevent soil erosion, increase property value, save the environment, helps kids focus, clean our water, keep our mind free from stress and tensions and make mind cool.’
Community Forest Garden – an approach to improve the livelihoods of impoverished farmers by revitalizing degraded lands.
The Forest Garden Program is a simple, replicable and scalable approach with proven success. By planting specific types of fast-growing trees, fruit trees, hardwoods and food crops in a systematic manner over a five-year period, farmers can positively change their lives forever. Forest Gardens consist of thousands of trees that provide families with sustainable food sources, livestock feed, products to sell, fuel wood and a 400% increase in their annual income in five years.
